Is this a legal will service?

No. AssureOkay's Digital Will is a storage and distribution service only—it does not create, draft, or validate legal documents. Your actual will should be created with a qualified attorney according to your jurisdiction's legal requirements. We simply provide a secure way to store and automatically distribute your documents to loved ones.

What documents can I store?

You can upload any type of file—PDFs, images, spreadsheets, text documents, and more. Common documents include: legal wills, healthcare directives, power of attorney, insurance policies, account information, personal messages to loved ones, and instructions for digital assets.

Can I send different things to different contacts?

Yes! You can write a personalized message for each contact—perfect for leaving individual notes, final words, or specific instructions. You can also choose which files each contact receives: share everything with some people, or assign specific documents to specific recipients. For example, you might share financial documents with your spouse but send personal letters to each of your children.

How does a trusted executor actually request a release?

You add up to three executors from your emergency contacts, on the Trusted Executors panel of your Digital Will page. Each one is emailed their own private link. That link does not expire, so it still works years later, and you can resend it at any time if they lose the email. If an executor becomes concerned about you, they open the link and request a release. We email you straight away with a one-click "I'm okay" button, and you have 48 hours to use it. Only if we hear nothing from you do your documents go out to your contacts. Each executor can only ask once every 30 days, and if you remove an executor their link stops working immediately. The mobile app has a Digital Will screen under Profile, showing whether you are protected and carrying the emergency release, so you do not need a laptop in a hurry. Uploading documents, choosing executors and setting your verification schedule are done on the web, and the app links straight through without asking you to sign in again. Your executors only ever need the link we email them, with no app or account required.

How does verification work?

You choose a verification interval: every 30, 60, or 90 days. When it's time to verify, you'll receive email and SMS reminders. Simply click the "I'm Here" button to confirm you're okay. If you don't verify after the 7-day grace period, your documents will be released to your designated contacts. If you also use daily check-ins, they stand in for verification and it stays dormant, so you are never asked the same question twice.

Exactly when does my Digital Will get released automatically?

An automatic release is never sudden, and a single missed check-in never causes one. Two things have to happen in order.

First, your check-ins have to stop standing in for verification. While you are checking in nothing counts down at all, because every completed check-in pushes your verification date forward. Cover stops if you miss two check-ins in a row (your emergency contacts are alerted on each one, and we then pause your check-in schedule automatically and email you to say so), if you pause your check-ins yourself, or if you never set a check-in schedule up.

You are never handed over silently. However your check-ins stop covering you, we email you four times over the following week to say that verification is taking over and that resuming your check-ins cancels it. This is a warning window, not a delay: your verification interval is already counting down alongside it, so the handover adds messages rather than time.

Second, your verification interval runs down. The interval you chose counts down, we email and text you three days before it is due, on the day itself, again three days after it, and once more 24 hours before your documents go out. A 7-day grace period follows the due date, and your documents are released the day after it ends.

With daily check-ins and a 30-day interval, the sequence runs: day 1 first missed check-in and contacts alerted; day 2 second missed check-in, contacts alerted again and your check-in schedule paused automatically, which is where the countdown starts; days 3, 5, 7 and 8 the four handover emails; day 28 a reminder that verification is due in three days; day 31 verification due; day 34 a reminder that verification is three days overdue; day 38 a final reminder 24 hours before the release; day 39 documents released.

So the rule of thumb is your verification interval plus about nine days, counted from the day you stop responding: roughly 39 days on a 30-day interval, 69 on a 60-day interval, and 99 on a 90-day interval. At least eleven separate messages reach you or your contacts before anything goes out, and one check-in, or one click of "I'm Here", at any point resets the whole thing.

How long can my contacts open my Digital Will after it is released?

Each private access link is valid for 90 days from the moment the will is released. Inside that window a contact can open their portal and download whatever you shared with them, as often as they like, with every access logged.

After 90 days the link stops working, but nobody is locked out. Opening an expired link brings up a page with a button that emails a fresh 90-day link, and it goes to the address the original was sent to, never to whoever happens to be holding the old URL. Probate can run for months, so an executor coming back to this long after the fact still gets in.

Even so, tell the people you trust to download and keep their own copies of anything they will need rather than treating the portal as permanent storage. This matters most for documents somebody has to act on months later, such as anything going to a solicitor. Separately, and much sooner, you can revoke a release within 7 days of it going out, which cuts every link immediately and emails everyone who was told.

Why have I never received a verification email?

Almost always because your check-ins are already protecting your will, which is exactly what should happen. While your check-ins are active, no verification emails are sent: you are telling us you are okay every time you check in, so there is nothing left to ask. Your Digital Will page shows On standby when this is the case, meaning your verification schedule is ready but dormant. Nothing is overdue and nothing is at risk of being released. Verification only wakes up when your check-ins stop standing in for it, which happens if you miss two check-ins in a row (we pause your check-in schedule automatically and email you to say so), if you pause your check-ins yourself, or if you never set a check-in schedule up. From that point the interval you chose starts counting down and the reminders begin, and you are told it is happening: we email you four times over the following week to say verification is taking over, and resuming your check-ins cancels it. A verification email that never arrives is not a missed email, and your documents cannot be released because of one.

What if I'm on vacation and miss verification?

You have a 7-day grace period with multiple email and SMS reminders, and verification is only asked of you in the first place once your check-ins have stopped covering you. If you are travelling and expect to be out of contact, pause your Digital Will verification schedule specifically, or temporarily extend the interval. Pausing only your check-ins is not enough: that is what hands control to verification rather than pausing it, and the two are separate switches. While nothing is covering your Digital Will, whether because you paused the verification schedule, paused your check-ins too, or both, we email you about once a week to say it is not currently protected. That is a reminder rather than a fault, and it stops as soon as either one is protecting you again. If documents are released while you are away, you have 7 days to revoke access.

Who can access my documents?

Only you can access your documents while your verification is current. Your designated contacts and executors cannot see anything until documents are released. You control exactly who receives your documents when release occurs.

Is there a storage limit?

Yes. Plus subscribers have storage limits for uploaded documents. Individual files can be up to 200MB each. You can view your current storage usage in your Digital Will dashboard.

What happens to my documents if I cancel?

If your Plus subscription expires or is cancelled, your Digital Will features are suspended and nothing is released automatically. That covers both routes: a missed verification will not release your documents, and neither will a request from one of your trusted executors. Your documents stay where they are and releasing resumes if you resubscribe. Documents may be deleted after 30 days of account inactivity. We recommend downloading your files before cancelling.

How does the encryption work?

You can optionally enable client-side AES encryption using a 12-word recovery phrase (based on the BIP-39 standard, the same format used by cryptocurrency wallets). When enabled, your files are encrypted in your browser before they're uploaded—we never see your recovery phrase. The phrase is stored only in your browser, so you'll need to save it securely (we provide a downloadable PDF) and share it with your contacts so they can decrypt files after release. If you lose your recovery phrase, encrypted files cannot be recovered.
